SMPS Hawaiʻi summer 2026, the future of higher ed facilities in Hawaiʻi, planning forum attendees and presenters.
Dingilizwe “Clarence” Ncube, Facilities and Sustainability Project Manager at HPU, joined facilities leaders from the University of Hawaiʻi and Brigham Young University–Hawaiʻi for a panel discussion, “The Future of Higher Ed Facilities in Hawaiʻi: What Campus Leaders Are Seeing Now.” The forum, hosted this past summer by SMPS Hawaiʻi at HPU's Aloha Tower Marketplace campus, explored emerging trends and challenges facing colleges and universities across the state.
Panelists discussed student-centered campus design, sustainability and resilience, facilities modernization, deferred maintenance, long-term planning, and facilities' evolving role in supporting institutional missions. The discussion highlighted strategies for creating safe, resilient, sustainable, and inspiring environments that support student success and institutional goals. Ncube expressed appreciation to SMPS Hawaiʻi, the event sponsors, fellow panelists, and attendees for contributing to a meaningful conversation about the future of higher education facilities across the state.
