Accreditations

Hawai'i Pacific University has been accredited since 1973 by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC). In February 2022, WSCUC conducted a Reaffirmation of Accreditation visit. The timeline and HPU committee membership for the 2022 reaffirmation visit are available here. On July 11, 2022, WSCUC reaffirmed HPU’s accreditation through 2028. The university is currently conducting its self-review in preparation for the next Reaffirmation of Accreditation visit in Fall 2028.

The Nursing baccalaureate degree program, master's degree program in nursing, post-graduate certificate program, and Doctor of Nursing Practice at Hawai'i Pacific University are approved by the Hawai‘i State Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

The Social Work baccalaureate and master's degree programs (BSW and MSW degrees) are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

The Public Health programs (BSPH and MPH degrees) are accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Following a self-study and site visit during the 2024-2025 academic year, CEPH placed the Public Health programs under probationary accreditation through July 1, 2027. HPU remains committed to satisfying all CEPH requirements and will undergo another review in Spring 2027, with the specific date to be determined. We respect the Council's decision and are committed to resolving their concerns.

The Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and the Master of Education - Elementary Education and Secondary Education programs are accredited by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). The School of Education is an approved Teacher Education Program (TEP) by the Hawaiʻi Teacher Standards Board (HTSB).

The ARC-PA has granted Accreditation-Provisional status to the Hawaiʻi Pacific University Master of Medical Science-Physician Assistant Program sponsored by Hawaiʻi Pacific University. Accreditation-Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding Accreditation-Provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students. Accreditation-Provisional does not ensure any subsequent accreditation status. It is limited to no more than five years from matriculation of the first class. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (Honolulu) has been granted accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (Las Vegas) has been granted Candidate Accreditation Status by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science is accredited by the ABET.

The Bachelor of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Biotechnology Engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the ABET.

In accordance with the U.S. Department of Education State Authorization Rule, which takes effect July 1, 2020, HPU is pleased to share disclosure information about how our educational requirements meet the requirements for professional licensure within each state. The information for individual programs can be found below.


Important Note: HPU cannot accept student attestations of intent to seek employment in compliant states if the applicant currently resides in a non-compliant state. Physical residency in an approved state must be established prior to application submission.
