HPU’s MAODL program gives you all the flexibility you need by letting you complete the program completely online, in-class or in a hybrid format. Enjoy the best of both worlds by engaging in academic and experiential learning with our experienced faculty and partnerships with businesses and organizations, and learn how to make decisions based on research and behavioral science to introduce solutions and interventions that influence an organization’s strategic objectives and bottom line. Today’s organizations are experiencing extremely complex, system-wide social, economic, political and climate change. These issues impact every facet of life today. Organizations need leaders who can understand the complexity of organizational systems from small businesses to international entities. At all levels, they need agents of change who can master this rapidly changing world, new technologies, workforce needs and government regulations. Graduates of the MAODL program are primed to meet these challenges.
Organization development involves an ongoing process of implementing effective organizational change interventions. OD is a field of applied science focused on understanding and managing organizational effectiveness and is interdisciplinary in nature and draws on the behavioral, systems, organizational and management sciences. the practice of OD has incorporated new and emerging fields of study into a much more multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary approach to change and organizational effectiveness.
Leaders to day must be able to diagnose complex systemic issues facing their organization and then design and implement interventions that are planned organization-wide, and designed to increase organization effectiveness and health. Knowledge of complex systems, organizational culture and dynamics combined with a deep understanding or organizational processes is critical to organizational effectiveness and survival. Graduates of the MAODL program are not only prepared to guide and assist organizations through change initiatives, they are better prepared to be the leaders of these organizations as they navigate through complex, systemwide change initiatives. Opportunities for organization development professionals include leading and consulting in business, education, for profit, not-for-profit, government, international NGOs, political and other kinds of organizations.

The Master of Arts in Organization Development and Leadership (MAODL) program at Hawaii‘i Pacific University prepares you to be a global problem solver. Our graduates facilitate organizational and cultural change around the world and often return to guide and mentor. Students explore concepts from management, sociology, anthropology, organizational development, psychology of technology, and economics. They design innovations and work with programs in actual organizations.
A diverse faculty and student cohort bring an international perspective to the curriculum. When designing and implementing positive organizational change, one important consideration is recognizing cultural diversity. The MAODL program takes a global view. HPU features a multicultural learning environment that takes full advantage of Honolulu’s status as an international business community.
MAODL faculty members are excellent teachers and engaged mentors for all students. Our professors bring real-world experience and relevant knowledge from businesses and organizations around the United States and the world.

International Applicants: the minimum English Proficiency Requirements for the MAODL program is a TOEFL (IBT) overall score of 80 with a writing Score of 25, or IELTS overall score of 6.0 with a Writing Score of 6.5. See here for additional requirements for International students.

Dr. Ken Rossi is an Assistant Professor of Organization Development and Leadership at Hawai‘i Pacific University where he is also the faculty chair for the Masters of Organization Development and Leadership (MAODL) program. |
Before joining HPU Dr. Rossi served as NASA’s Organization and Employee Development Training Manager working out of Ames Research center in Mountainview, California.
Dr. Rossi’s research is in the area of leadership and leadership development and is currently conducting research on the impact of simulations on leadership and organizational behavior. Prior to NASA, Dr. Rossi ran a career transition program, satellite campus operation, and served in the US Army as a leader, trainer and Organizational Effectiveness consultant and educator.
Dr. Rossi holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, a master’s degree in Human Resources Management and Organization Development, and a master’s degree in Counseling from Chapman University, a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Chaminade University and is a graduate of the US Army Organizational Effectiveness Staff Officer’s School at Fort Ord, California and is a Senior Registered OD Professional.
Dr. Rossi has worked extensively throughout the United States and the Pacific including Samoa, Thailand, Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Panama, and other areas of South and Central America.
"Teaching in the MAODL program at HPU is a privilege on many levels," shares Rossi. First, the diversity of our student body adds an eclectic mix of perspectives and experiences to our class discussions. In my opinion, this dynamic is not duplicated anywhere else in the Pacific Rim. Second, the faculty in the MAODC program also come from diverse backgrounds. Our faculty present our curriculum from both the academic and practitioner-oriented viewpoints which allows students to gain the best from both worlds.
Finally, our focus on project-based learning gives our students opportunities to work with local businesses and solve real issues facing those organizations. Our students practice what they will be doing in the consulting field. Rossi teaches in both the MAODL and MBA programs at Hawai‘i Pacific University.
