Biography:

Nancy Mitchell AGACNP-BC graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as a registered nurse for nearly 12 years before going back to University of California, Los Angeles for her Masters in Adult Geriatric Acute Care. Nancy’s expertise includes cardiothoracic surgery including heart and lung transplantation as well as advanced heart failure. After graduating with her masters, she moved to Hawaii and worked at Queen’s Medical Center in the Gastrointestinal department where she not only worked up patients for procedures but also helped used functional medicine to get to the root cause of their intestinal problems, focusing on diet and supplementation to resolve their symptoms. Eventually, she moved back to the Cardiology department at Queen’s and focused on critically ill heart failure patients and helped work them up for transplantation while building their burgeoning transplant and LVAD (left ventricular assist device) program. In 2022, she focused her energy on teaching the graduate program at HPU and has eventually moved to include undergraduate instruction as well.
