Introducing the Inter-Departmental Wiki
We’re excited to announce the launch of our new Inter-Departmental Wiki, a shared knowledge base for faculty and staff. This wiki is designed to capture institutional knowledge, streamline collaboration, and make it easier for colleagues across departments to find and share helpful information.
Why a Wiki?
Over time, valuable knowledge often gets trapped in emails, personal notes, or informal conversations. By storing it in a central, searchable wiki, we create a lasting resource that benefits everyone. Think of it as our collective "how-to" library: best practices, step-by-step guides, policies, technical instructions, and more.
Who Can Contribute?
All staff and faculty have access to the wiki. Contributions are encouraged by everyone, whether you’re documenting a recurring process, sharing troubleshooting tips, or adding context to policies. Even small updates, like clarifying a step in a workflow, make the resource stronger for the next person.
Moderation
The wiki is moderated to help ensure accuracy, professionalism, and consistency. Edits may be adjusted, but all contributions are welcome.
Getting Started with Markup
MediaWiki uses a lightweight markup language. Here are a few quick tips to help you get started:
- Headings:
=Main Heading=
==Subheading== - Bold and Italics:
''italic'' → italic
'''bold''' → bold - Lists:
* Item one
* Item two - Links:
[[Page Name]] → internal link
[http://example.com Example Site] → external link
How You Can Help
Since the wiki is new, there isn’t much content yet. But as we start contributing more, it will quickly become a much more useful resource. Start by browsing existing pages at idk.hpu.edu, then think about:
- Processes you repeat often that others may benefit from
- Tips for using campus systems more efficiently
- FAQs you answer regularly
- Documentation you wish you’d had when you first started
Adding even a short page today helps build a resource that will save colleagues time tomorrow.
Together, we can create a powerful library of shared knowledge for our university community.
