In July 2025, TESOL Professor Dr. Hanh Nguyen travelled to Hanoi, Hue, Nagoya, and Kyoto for several research and teaching collaborations.

In Hanoi, Vietnam, Nguyen visited the School of Foreign Languages and Tourism at Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), where she gave a workshop on conversation analysis. She also met with her collaborators, Dr. Hiep Nguyen and Dr. Lan-Anh Le, to prepare for the Conversation Analysis Network-Asia (CAN-Asia) Symposium, scheduled to take place at HaUI in 2026. Additionally, she worked with the HaUI professors on their co-authored edited volume on conversation analysis, to be published by Vietnam's largest publisher, The Education Publishing House, also slated for release in 2026.

In Hue, Vietnam, Nguyen collected data of Vietnamese conversations for a research project to analyze Vietnamese social interaction. This data will be used in the book mentioned above and will fuel her future collaborations with members of VietCA, a group of conversation analysts working on Vietnamese data.

In Nagoya, Japan, Nguyen taught an intensive course on discourse analysis for Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (NUFS), as part of the long-term partnership between HPU and NUFS. Over the years, this partnership has involved student exchange, groups in HPU TESOL's International Group Programs, and teaching by an HPU faculty member at NUFS.

In Kyoto, Japan, Nguyen participated in a data session with members of CAN-Asia in Japan, along with scholars from Korea and Sweden. The data session was hosted by Dr. Mika Ishino at Doshisa University, and Nguyen contributed by sharing a data set of Vietnamese heritage language.

Nguyen's travel to Vietnam was funded by the NEH Faculty Development grant at HPU. Additional funding was provided by NUFS and Doshisha University.
